Jim Brown - Southampton

Jim Brown is a local author, born in Southampton in 1932, who lived in the City until 2014 and devoted himself to investigating the city’s past. He is a former detective and deputy coroner’s officer with Southampton City Police, with six Commendations and promotion to sergeant. This was followed by two decades as chief security & safety officer for the Southampton Container Terminal.

 

In retirement he had unrivalled access to the secret location of the thousands of Hampshire Constabulary Scenes of Crime stored exhibits, photographs and files, enabling him to produce authentic accounts of Southampton murders with previously unpublished material.
Vice President of the Southampton Bitterne Local History Society, he contributes regular articles to the Society quarterly magazine, of which he was Editor for many years, and has written a number of books on the history of Southampton and police matters.
He currently lives in Norfolk, widowed, with his daughter.
