SALISBURY: THE CHANGING CITY gives a vivid insight into the dramatic developments that have taken place in the town in the recent past up to 2003. It is a reference for everyone who is interested in Salisbury's rich, surprising history.

The book recalls houses and public buildings, shops, businesses and pubs that have vanished or been altered almost beyond recognition.

It takes the reader on a tour that compares present-day streetscapes with photographs and other illustrations made from the same viewpoints in the past.

Changes at work and in the home, in transport and in the local culture and economy have affected every corner of the town and have influenced every aspect of the lives of the people.

Many of the illustrations come from local archive sources which provide an unrivalled record of the story of the city. The resulting contrast offers an illuminating insight into the evolution of the city over the last 200 years.
