Leyton Orient Greats

This book pays tribute to 12 Orient greats, players who gave their all for the club and who made afternoons in east London a genuine pleasure.

On the occasions that a player in the home strip captures the imagination of the Brisbane Road crowd – be it through their skill, passion, commitment or loyalty – he is cherished forever.

Through extensive interviews with the players themselves, their teammates, managers and the fans who watched them play, this book gives a real insight into these Orient favourites, on and off the pitch.

The players featured are: Peter Allen, Sid Bishop, Steve Castle, Stan Charlton, Alan Comfort, Laurie Cunningham, Tony Grealish, Tommy Johnston, Peter Kitchen, Matt Lockwood, Dennis Rofe and Tommy Taylor.

There are many stories inside this book, which span over 50
years of football and paint a picture of one of the country’s most colourful clubs.

About the Author

Matt Simpson is a Hackney-based journalist and lifelong Orient fan. He attended his first game at Brisbane Road in 1979, aged seven – a dreary 2–0 loss to Ipswich in the FA Cup.

Despite this, he fell in love with the club and has remained a supporter ever since. He can usually be found in the West Stand with a look of weary resignation on his face.
